L'UNESCO a décidé d' inscrire les techniques traditionnelles de fabrication artisanale de papier japonais "washi" sur sa liste du patrimoine culturel immatériel.
Une commission intergouvernementale de l'UNESCO a pris cette décision mercredi à Paris lors d'une réunion au siège de l'organisation internationale.
Les membres de la commission ont mentionné la transmission de génération à génération du savoir-faire et des compétences techniques nécessaires à la fabrication traditionnelle du papier, de même que les liens ainsi créés dans les communautés.
Ils ont également parlé de la culture des mûriers et des opportunités éducatives associées à la mise en application des techniques traditionnelles de fabrication du papier.
Le système de reconnaissance du patrimoine culturel immatériel vise à protéger d'importants exemples de traditions régionales du monde entier.
Le Japon avait proposé l'inscription des techniques de fabrication de trois types de papier, le "Sekishu-Banshi" de la préfecture de Shimane, le "Hon-minoshi" de la préfecture de Gifu, et le "Hosokawa-shi" de la préfecture de Saitama. Ces trois papiers sont tous fabriqués à la main à partir de fibres de mûriers.

'Washi' skills listed as cultural heritage

UNESCO has decided to add the traditional techniques of crafting Japanese-style "washi" paper to its list of intangible cultural heritage.
A UNESCO intergovernmental committee made the decision at a meeting held at the organization's headquarters in Paris on Wednesday.
Committee members cited the handing down of traditional paper-making knowledge and skills for generations and the bond it creates in communities.
They noted the cultivation of paper mulberry trees and the educational opportunities to experience traditional paper-making techniques.
The intangible cultural heritage system is aimed at protecting important examples of regional customs and traditions around the world.
Japan nominated the skills for making 3 types of paper. They are Sekishu-Banshi of Shimane Prefecture, Hon-minoshi of Gifu Prefecture and Hosokawa-shi of Saitama Prefecture. All these handmade techniques use mulberry fibers.
Japan's Commissioner for Cultural Affairs Masanori Aoyagi said he hopes the decision will expand exchanges between people who have been protecting "washi" paper. He also said the government will continue to lend its full support to the communities and efforts that safeguard the craftsmanship of "washi."
Twenty-two items from Japan have already been registered as intangible cultural heritage. They include Kabuki and Noh theater. "Washoku", or traditional Japanese cuisine, was added to the list last year.

日本の和紙 無形文化遺産登録 決定へ

世界各地の伝統文化などを保護するユネスコの無形文化遺産の登録審議が２６日、フランスのパリで行われ、早ければ日本時間の２６日夜にも、日本の手すき和紙の技術が無形文化遺産に決まる見通しです。
ユネスコ＝国連教育科学文化機関の無形文化遺産は、地域の歴史や風習に根ざした世界各地の伝統文化や芸能を保護していこうというもので、ことしの登録審議はパリのユネスコ本部で日本時間の２６日午後５時半から始まります。
ことしは、ブラジルの伝統的な格闘技カポエイラや、北朝鮮の民謡のアリランなど、各国が提案した４６件が、国名のアルファベット順で審議されます。
このうち、日本からは島根県の「石州半紙」、岐阜県の「本美濃紙」、それに埼玉県の「細川紙」という、いずれも「こうぞ」だけを原料にし、伝統的な手すきで作られる和紙が提案され、２２番目に審議される予定です。
事前審査を行ったユネスコの補助機関は先月、登録にふさわしいと勧告していて、これまで勧告が覆された例はないことから、早ければ日本時間の２６日夜にも無形文化遺産への登録が決まる見通しです。
ユネスコの無形文化遺産には、去年、和食の食文化が登録されたのをはじめ、日本から、これまでに歌舞伎や能楽など２２件が登録されています。
